What Toys
Are Suitable?

It is important to pick toys for the appropriate age, pushing too far ahead may make the toy less attractive or less about play than aspiration.

For under 3-year-olds, look out for the warning symbols – these toys contain small parts a your child could swallow and choke on. Avoid these toys until your child is 3+.

You should also be aware of where you buy toys from. Online marketplaces host products sold by “third-party sellers”. Those sellers are often overseas and outside the jurisdiction of UK laws and enforcement. As a result, many toys fail to meet basic safety requirements, and put children at risk of harm.

Play should never endanger children so make sure you buy from a reputable toy seller, one based in the UK.

Think about if something went wrong, could you get in touch with the seller to raise your concerns, could you take the toy back, how easily would you be able to deal with the toy seller – and only buy from ones that give you confidence. If you are buying from a well known online platform, make sure you know if you are buying directly or from a third-party seller – if it is the latter the platform is not responsible for helping you if something goes wrong.
