With not far short of half-a-million of the furry chattering creatures sold in the UK in the run-up to Christmas, Furby from Tiger Electronics became the No.1 best-seller and claimed the British Association of Toy Retailers (BATR) Toy of the Year 1998/99 award at a ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London tonight (Sunday, January 31 1999).
Craze of the YearPro Yo II and III (TCL)

TCL - makers of the Pro Yo II and III won the award for Craze of the Year. It was initially through their efforts that the yo-yo craze got started. BATR chairman, David Fogel said: "There was a staggering £30 million worth of yo-yo sales through 1999 in the UK alone, which made an important contribution to the toy trade in a difficult year."
