The Pre-school category (from birth to 3 years) is worth £728m and is the fastest growing sector in the toy market with 10% growth in 2006. 2007 will see the launch of the new and exciting toys the Smart Cycle (Mattel) and new Thomas & Jeremy Airport Set (Tomy) which will complement the already successful Tomica range on the market. In this character driven sector, Thomas, Dora the Explorer, Fifi and the Flowertots, Peppa Pig and Lazytown, to name a few, have all generated impressive sales in 2006 and a staggering 18% growth for the licensed pre-school sector. New British-born concepts are also making history this year. In the Night Garden (Hasbro), the acclaimed new BBC release from the makers of Teletubbies is one, and Roary The Racing Car (Vivid), is the other. The minute that product hit the shelves, consumers headed to the shops on mass. |
